The ECOTOX (ECOTOXicology) database provides single chemical toxicity information for aquatic and terrestrial life. The ECOTOXicology database (ECOTOX) is a source for locating single chemical toxicity data for aquatic life, terrestrial plants and wildlife. ECOTOX was created and is maintained by the U.S.EPA, Office of Research and Development (ORD) , and the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory's (NHEERL's) Mid-Continent Ecology Division (MED).

ECOTOX integrates three previously independent databases - AQUIRE, PHYTOTOX, and TERRETOX - into a unique system which includes toxicity data derived predominately from the peer-reviewed literature, for aquatic life, terrestrial plants, and terrestrial wildlife, respectively.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-668380706517868524.post-30779832227542628612014-01-27T07:34:00.000-08:002014-01-27T07:34:15.092-08:00HIV Databases HIV Databases
AAA was initiated in 2000 in response to the urgent need to document and secure the multiple recent histories of contemporary art in the region. With an international Board of Directors, an Advisory Board made up of noted curators and critics, and research posts in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan, AAA has collated one of the most valuable collections of material on contemporary art in the region. Built of 85% donated material, the collection now holds over 34,000 records, comprised of hundreds of thousands of physical and digital items, and it continues to grow. Accessible free of charge from AAA’s physical space and searchable from anywhere in the world via the online catalogue, much of the collection is now also available globally via the Collection Online.
This remarkable database allows users to browse around by architect, town, or keyword, using its online indices. Along the top of the homepage, visitors can use the Persons, Locations, Keywords, and Info tabs to get acclimated to the site. In the Locations area, visitors can use the buttons to look around at projects from Boston to Bangalore. Why not look around through the Keywords area? The items here range from "14 stories" to "zoological building." Also, visitors can use the right-hand side of the page to look over the Most Viewed offerings, which unsurprisingly include structures like the Sta tue of Liberty and Versailles.
For any college student majoring in the geophysical sciences, getting out into the field can be a key academic experience. This novel initiative, created by Carleton College's Science Education Resource Center (SERC), is a pilot project designed to make the field guide literature more accessible and useful to geoscience educators, students, and researchers. This site features published field guides and road logs for Montana and Yellowstone National Park, both of which are popular locations for summer field courses conducted by geology departments from San Diego, California to Orono, Maine. Visitors can search the database by topic, geographic location, and geologic province. Additionally, they can use the Top 10 area to find a list of the top ten geology field trips in the area based on geological interest, scenery, and general access. The site is rounded out by a collection of student exercises based on specific field localities in Montana.

Since 1987, staff members at the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies have been collecting citations of documents related to alcohol. Today, they have over 80,000 citations and much of the material is related to research and professional materials that deal with the subject. Additionally, the database contains a small collection of educational and prevention materials designed for use by educators, parents, and public health workers. The site is maintained by the Scholarly Communication Center, the Center of Alcohol Studies, and the Rutgers University Libraries. Visitors to the site can search by subject, or perform a more advanced search as well. The site also includes a "Help" area, which includes information on limiting searches, links to full text, and suggestions on using Boolean techniques.

The Alcohol Studies Database contains citations of over 80,000 documents indexed by the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies since 1987. The primary focus of the database is on research and professional materials dealing with beverage alcohol, its use and related consequences. While a growing amount of literature on other drug use/abuse has been added in recent years, this material represents only a small percentage of the database and is not indexed to the same depth as the alcohol literature. In addition to the research and professional material, the database also includes a small collection of educational and prevention materials, including audiovisuals, suitable for students and educators K-12, parents, community workers, and the general public.
The IDP database was established by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in 1998 at the request of the United Nations. Run by the NRC’s Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre, the database offers comprehensive and frequently updated information and analysis on all situations of conflict-induced internal displacement worldwide. With just the click of a button, visitors can get a brief overview of the displacement situation in a given country, or browse the database for more detailed information on background, causes of displacement, humanitarian and human rights concerns, and national and international responses. In 2005, the database included nearly 14,000 documents from some 2000 different external sources. In total, the database provides direct access to over 12,000 relevant documents.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-668380706517868524.post-16543959446226095942010-09-08T09:03:00.000-07:002010-09-08T09:03:44.547-07:00Food Surveys Products and ServicesFood Surveys Products and Services
The North American Jewish Data Bank (NAJDB) was created in 1986 by the Council of Jewish Federations and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Part of their mission is to "provide empirical survey data sets about the North American Jewish community" and also to "encourage academicians, students, communal professionals and others to utilize Data Bank holdings." This is, in part, accomplished by their website, which features questionnaires, reports, and data files from the National Jewish Population Surveys of 1971, 1990, and 2000-2001. Visitors can look at these reports directly from the homepage, and they will also want to click on the "American Jewish Year Book" area. Here they will find articles on America's Jewish population from the American Jewish Year Book, dating back to 1949. Also, visitors can look at state information by using the "Community Archive by State" section. Finally, the site contains an FAQ area and contact information for staff members at the NAJDB.
The Migration Policy Institute has worked on a number of resources for scholars and journalists, and this latest addition to their site is another worthy venture in this vein. The State Legislation Database is a free, searchable data tool designed "to generate information about all immigration-related bills and resolutions introduced in state legislatures." The information is classified by state, region, subject area, legislative type, and bill status, and visitors can search through all of the data via their specialized search engine. This particular project is a joint project of the Migration Policy Institute and a research team at the New York University School of Law. Currently, the database contains data from 2001 to 2007, and they are planning on adding additional legislation in the future. More casual visitors can also just take a quick look at some brief tables, which feature state immigration legislature by type, bill status, and subject area. >From The Scout Report, Copyright Internet Scout Project 1994-2008. http://scout.wisc.edu/Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-668380706517868524.post-15460310423200937892010-01-27T10:54:00.001-08:002010-01-27T10:54:47.992-08:00Biomedical Search
Biomedical Search

 http://www.biomedsearch.com/
The goal of this work is "to make these important works available to the community in a way that is fast and easy, while still offering the advanced features demanded by power users such as portfolios, collaboration features, bibliographical citation export, alerts, and more." Their search engine contains all of the data in Pub Med/Medline, along with additional full-text documents, and a large database of theses and dissertations. Many users will find the "Clusters" section of the site most useful. Here, visitors can view "clusters" of documents grouped together thematically into topics such as clinical trials, exercises, diet and cholesterol, and medical imagining. The homepage contains a basic search engine, and visitors may also wish to use the "Search Tutorial" to gain a better understanding of how best to use the archive. >From The Scout Report, Copyright Internet Scout Project 1994-2009. http://scout.wisc.edu/Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
