Bureau of Transportation Statistics TRANSTAT

Bureau of Transportation Statistics TRANSTAT databases - TranStats is a new website for transportation researchers and analysts, aimed at providing “one stop shopping” for transportation data.

TranStats offers analysts several unique features: A searchable index of over 100 transportation-related data bases across every mode of transportation — with many social and demographic data sets that are commonly used in transportation analysis. Interactive analytical tools—the ability to do simple statistical summaries, create time series or cross tabulations, generate graphics online, and cut/paste results into reports. Interactive mapping to help visualize geographic data.

Users can explore the data by transportation mode or by subject area, use keyword searches to find relevant datasets, and get online help. And since all the data in TranStats are indexed with a transportation thesaurus, links to other transportation research are easy through the National Transportation Library.

For a complete summary and description of this database set, click here

Data can be searched by mode, including aviation, maritime, highway, transit, rail, pipeline, and bike/pedestrian. In addition, data can be searched by subject, including safety, freight transport, passenger travel, infastructure, social/demographic, energy, environment, and national security.

National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder PTSD Database

National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder PTSD Database - The PILOTS database is an electronic index to the worldwide literature on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental-health consequences of exposure to traumatic events. It is produced by the National Center for PTSD, and is electronically available to the public. There is no charge for using the database, and no account or password is required. Although it is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the PILOTS database is not limited to literature on PTSD among veterans.

The goal of the PILOTS database is to include citations to all literature on PTSD and other mental-health sequelae of traumatic events, without disciplinary, linguistic, or geographical limitations, and to offer both current and retrospective coverage.

At the end of fiscal year 2006 there were over 30,000 references in the database. The database is updated bimonthly, and links to full text articles are included for over 38% of citations, including all National Center authored articles. PILOTS is a bibliographical database. That is, it is essentially a list of publications, rather than a collection of texts.

Maps can also show locations of Superfund sites on the National Priority List (NPL) (http://www.epa.gov/superfund/sites/npl), listing all chemical contaminants present at these sites. Users can search the system by chemical name, chemical name fragment, and/or location (such as city, state, or ZIP code). TOXMAP also overlays map data such as US Census population information, income figures from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and health data from the National Cancer Institute (http://www.cancer.gov/) and the National Center for Health Statistics (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/).

SEC Filings & Forms (EDGAR)

Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR - All companies, foreign and domestic, are required to file registration statements, periodic reports, and other forms electronically through EDGAR. Anyone can access and download this information for free. Here you'll find links to a complete list of filings available through EDGAR and instructions for searching the EDGAR database.

EDGAR, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, performs automated collection, validation, indexing, acceptance, and forwarding of submissions by companies and others who are required by law to file forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Its primary purpose is to increase the efficiency and fairness of the securities market for the benefit of investors, corporations, and the economy by accelerating the receipt, acceptance, dissemination, and analysis of time-sensitive corporate information filed with the agency.
Not all documents filed with the Commission by public companies will be available on EDGAR. Companies were phased in to EDGAR filing over a three-year period, ending May 6, 1996. As of that date, all public domestic companies were required to make their filings on EDGAR, except for filings made in paper because of a hardship exemption. Third-party filings with respect to these companies, such as tender offers and Schedules 13D, are also filed on EDGAR. [ABOUT http://www.sec.gov/edgar/aboutedgar.htm]
